Reclamation of the Flower Bed

Well, I guess at this point you could say that we will do just about ANYTHING to avoid finishing the dining room. Not really, but its just been such a long process that its just plain "feels better" to work on something that might actually get finished in a day or even a weekend. Jason had been talking about clearing out the flower bed in front of the bay window, because the shrubs there had really taken off this spring and were about half way up the windows. They kind of looked like they were eating the house! So I mentioned something about pruning them down so we could see what it would look like with smaller stuff in the beds and he gave me the green light. Well, that was early in the morning and by 9:30 PM, we were finished. It looks SO much better. And I have to say, I am TRULY IMPRESSED at how hard working and just plain strong my husband is. I could barely budge the stumps left after my pruning and could hardly dig in the rocky soil. But Jason took over with an axe and shovel, and after a couple of hours of hard work, they were all gone!

Here are some pics:

Before we moved in, and before they REALLY started growing

After my pruning

We had PLENTY of help!

Easter 2009

The Easter Bunny was good to the boys this year...even though we dyed the eggs at 8PM the night before. All the "egg hunts" were with plastic eggs this year, which the kids prefer, due to the candy/prizes inside. We went to our new church on Easter morning and the kids made it through the "grown-up" service, so it has been a great day so far. Now, on to lunch at Grandma Jackie's house for Easter dinner!

Carter for President

So, Saturday afternoon Carter decided he was running for President. This idea came from the book he recently purchased at the school book fair "Spongebob for President". He decided to make flyers saying "Carter for Prezident" and put them all around the house. I went upstairs to fold the laundry and came back downstairs to find his flyer creation station empty. I went outside and saw flyers all around the porch, but no sign of Carter. I called his name inside the house, I called his name outside the house and then I caught a glimpse of him halfway down the driveway. I thought he was heading down the driveway, but he was actually coming back up. I said "What on earth are you doing?" and he said I went to Mr. James' house to ask him to vote for me and he gave me a check. I almost passed out! I thought he had conned our neighbor into giving him a campaing donation. After he made it back to the top of the hill he showed me his notebook where he had writte...

Our special visitor....

Do I have a story to tell you! Last night Hunter ask if he could go out to the van and look for his Nintendo DS. I let him go and then made sure he locked the door as he came in. This morning, as I stepped outside to take some things to the car before we left for school/work, I noticed the sliding door on the van was wide open. I started griping to the boys "Good grief, now the battery is going to be dead....AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" They came running out the door to find an "American Bulldog" curled up in Carter's seat. After I got my wits about me, I sent them back in and tried to talk the dog out of the car. Then I tried to entice him out with a hot dog. He just stared at me. Then I got a stick, opened up all the doors and yelled at him to try to scare him out. He just ran behind the seat and hid in the back. When I got really agressive he started quivering his lip like he was going to growl at me. He was scared of me and I of him. All the while, I was documenting th...
