The Garden (uh....I mean Farm)

Carter wanted to start a garden in 2009 because his Granny gave him some seeds and a hoe for Christmas. Well, mom and dad flaked out and didn't get things started in time. We promised him we would do something this year. After much deliberation, we decided starting some plants from seeds indoors and transplanting them to a raised bed would be as much as we were willing to handle.

You see, we assumed Carter would be interested in the seeds sprouting and the initial construction of the garden, but we figured we would be the ones remembering to water, fertilize and harvest. Boy were we WRONG! Carter has gone full-on FARMER on us. He remembers to water on his own every day. He reminds us to help him fertilize every 7 days. He pulls weeds, and sometimes he checks on the crops multiple times a day. He frequently sits next to the garden and plans his expansion (he is hoping to add a cow) for next year. He has visited the Farmer's Market and wants to sell his crops there as soon as they will let him. We are totally impressed and I think we will do all we can to support him in his endeavors if he keeps working so hard.

Cookie Exchange

The first Saturday of December, I hosted my first Cookie Exchange. I had been wanting to do this for years, but things were always too busy. I decided to go ahead and do it anyway this year and it was fun! Lots of ladies attended and the cookies were great! Maybe I will do it again...

Easter 2009

The Easter Bunny was good to the boys this year...even though we dyed the eggs at 8PM the night before. All the "egg hunts" were with plastic eggs this year, which the kids prefer, due to the candy/prizes inside. We went to our new church on Easter morning and the kids made it through the "grown-up" service, so it has been a great day so far. Now, on to lunch at Grandma Jackie's house for Easter dinner!

Our special visitor....

Do I have a story to tell you! Last night Hunter ask if he could go out to the van and look for his Nintendo DS. I let him go and then made sure he locked the door as he came in. This morning, as I stepped outside to take some things to the car before we left for school/work, I noticed the sliding door on the van was wide open. I started griping to the boys "Good grief, now the battery is going to be dead....AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" They came running out the door to find an "American Bulldog" curled up in Carter's seat. After I got my wits about me, I sent them back in and tried to talk the dog out of the car. Then I tried to entice him out with a hot dog. He just stared at me. Then I got a stick, opened up all the doors and yelled at him to try to scare him out. He just ran behind the seat and hid in the back. When I got really agressive he started quivering his lip like he was going to growl at me. He was scared of me and I of him. All the while, I was documenting th...
