For those of you that clicked on my Facebook link thinking you were going to read my opinion on college football, get on back to Facebook. You obviously don't know me very well and are just being nosy. Ha!
Anyway, Jason and I were laughing yesterday about how the differences in living on acreage vs. subdivision living had not turned out quite like we thought. At our last home in Alabama we had about four acres, and both of our neighbors had at least 20 acres, so we felt like we were in the middle of the country. Horses in the front yard and coyotes howling at night. The whole shebang.
When we moved to Tennessee we were able to move into a comparable house, but we couldn't afford the same type acreage in the school district we wanted. So we eventually found a home with a decent sized lot and a few trees in a semi-private backyard.
While we were in Alabama, we only saw one snake. A 8 inch garter snake that I stepped on barefoot. That's it. Not even after they came through the fields with a bush-hog. Never had a mouse in the house, never found a tick on a kid after they played all day in the woods.
Since we have moved to TN, we have had:
Three Crazy-Scary looking Super-Fast bugs in the house. We have since learned they are house centipedes and don't bite, only eat other bugs. We have "taken care of" the ones that crossed our path. If there are any more, they need to GET OUT!!!!
A HUGE lizard that lives under the concrete driveway. The biggest I've ever seen in the continental USA.
A blackbird made a GINORMOUS nest in our BBQ grill in a few days time. When I transferred the nest to a box so I could grill burgers, the bird followed me around the house all day, staring at me and chirping. I'm pretty sure she was saying things I shouldn't put in my blog. I feel horrible, but I couldn't wait months to use my grill!
AND a tick on my BABY! It even took a chunk of Graham's head out when Jason removed it. Poor thing. We now have a "ticksicle" (stole that from Laura) in the freezer in case Graham gets sick.
We also have a plethora of unphotographed chipmunks who have more tunnels in our yard than al qaeda has in Afghanistan.
I have a feeling this blog post is To Be Continued...
